Governor Roel Degamo pledged to continue his full support to projects that will help the Provincial Government’s desire to attain peace and development in Negros Oriental as outlined in the centerpiece of his program of government called HELP or Health, Education, Livelihood Programs, Projects and Peace.
Governor Degamo made the commitment during the groundbreaking ceremony of the 2-storey-100 bed capacity-student dormitory in NORSU-Guihulngan City Campus which was also attended by Board Members Jessica Villanueva, Liland Estacion and Georgita Martinez, NORSU officials and the men and women of the Philippine Army.
Degamo thanked all the stakeholders of the project especially the Philippine Army Engineering Brigrade, the City Government of Guihulngan, Board Member Koppin and Senator Peter Cayetano for coming together for the construction of the student dormitory.
The governor said the Provincial Government is very much willing to pour in counterpart funds for projects that are aligned with the direction set by his administration especially when they are geared towards the attainment of total peace in the Province.
“The Provincial Government can only do so much and it is dealing with several and various concerns. We need the support of the different sectors and what we are doing today is a testament that there is nothing impossible if we pool our minds and resources for the benefit of our people,” the governor said.
He added the NORSU Guihulngan student dormitory is just one of the many projects that the Provincial Government and the Philippine Army are collaborating. There are other projects such as opening and concreting of roads, construction of school buildings, and establishment of potable water systems, among others.
This is one particular tradition practiced by my predecessors that I have continued under my administration because he strongly believes that the insurgency problem in the province could not be solved through the use of arms.
He said this must be coupled with developments so that the people will see that the government cares for them.
Counterparting
Board Member Jessica Jane Villanueva for her part described the activity yesterday as very successful and also lauded all the stakeholders for their contribution in this particular project.
BM Villanueva was among the instrumental personalities for the construction of the student dormitory raising some three million pesos for the project.
She said this is the result of the strong cooperation of the different sectors such as the commitment of Sen. Peter Cayetano for one million pesos, another one million pesos from the Provincial Government, 300 thousand for her office, another 500 thousand pesos worth of construction materials from the City Government of Guihulngan and the labour component from the Philippine Army 542nd Battalion of the 53rd Engineering Brigade.
Koppin said she was promised by the Phil. Army Engineering Brigade that the construction will be finished within eight months.
