NEGROS ORIENTAL, May 27 (PIA) – The Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) has intensified its intelligence operations following the reported shifting of rebel group activities in the province. 

Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo yesterday said he did not steal any money from the coffers of government, and that his political opponents are behind the charges filed against him.

The Office of the Ombudsman in Quezon City has recommended the filing of criminal charges against Gov. Roel Degamo and two other provincial officials before the Sandiganbayan for alleged violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, malversation and grave misconduct.

In spite of political maneuvers and bickering between the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and the Office of the Governor, a four-storey health facility has risen inside the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital compound.

The new officer-in-charge of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office assumed office yesterday, even if his order was dated January 8, or two days before the election ban on the transfer, promotion and hiring of government personnel.

DEGAMO TO HEAD RPOC: DILG Local Government Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento said Saturday that Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. will be the first chairman of the Negros Island Development Council, while Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo will head the NIR Regional Peace and Order Council.
